Uriarte 1658 Buenos Aires Argentina

restaurants

It's one of the hottest restaurants in Buenos Aires and a predictable feeding ground for visiting celebrities. Without a proper sign, dapper locals and their short-skirted guests flock to shiny bronze doors opening to the supper club-style space. The restaurant is divided between a main dining room with floor-to-ceiling wine cellar and a circular bar with tufted-banquette lounge area brimming with BA's sexiest singles. The dining room is paneled in mahogany paneling and arranged with upholstered settees with velvety booths colored Valentine's Day red. If given the option, always opt for a banquette in lieu of the tabletop seating closer to the bar that tends to be louder and more susceptible to bumps.

The Food

First-time restaurateur Juan Santa Cruz debuted this instant hotspot in late-2004, but it isn’t always the food that draws in the crowds. A sexy dining room offers a spectacular social gathering of dressed-up portenos feasting on a rather ordinary-Argentinean menu by Germán Martitegui. Meals begin with a mixed selection of appetizers including field greens topped with blue cheese and glazed walnuts or king crab covered in pear shavings. Entrees include a delicious roasted rabbit of perfection, tuna with fennel-slaw and rib eye marinated in chimichurri sauce. For dessert there is a basil-pistachio soufflé that takes longer than its worth, as well as an average selection of baked cakes and gelato.

Last Word

Super-stylized Buenos Aires eatery offers a supper club vibe complete with velvet rope lounge area and be-seen dining room.
